Home Learning
At Kanes Hill Primary School, we believe that home learning should support and reinforce the learning children do at school without placing unnecessary pressure on family life.
Regular reading is at the heart of our approach, alongside carefully chosen activities that help children practise key knowledge and skills. These are designed to be manageable, purposeful and appropriate for a child's age.
We greatly value the support families give to their children's learning. Even a small amount of regular encouragement and time at home can make an important difference to children's confidence, independence and progress.
Reading
At Kanes Hill, we believe that creating a culture of reading is a vital tool in ensuring our children are given the best life chances. We wish for children's love of reading to extend far beyond the classroom and allow them to build on their skills whilst developing a real curiosity and thirst for knowledge. Children will have two books they take home to read: a book matched to their reading fluency level to help them progress as a reader and a book of their choice from our School Library.
Reading Logs:
Children colour in a stamp every time they read.
Children with 20+ stamps signed each month will earn a ticket and have the chance to win a reading book. Children can record the books they have read at home on the back cover.

We value the impact digital technology can have in supporting learning at home. Most of our home learning is set through our various online portals which are set up for your child in school and login credentials are sent home with them.
