Instrumental learning
At Kanes Hill we work very closely with Southampton Music Hub to offer our instrumental learning. We are proud that all our provision is provided for free to our children and Southampton Music Hub loan instruments to all our children at no cost to parents.
As part of our curriculum learning children in Year 2 learn to play the Recorder and children in Year 3 learn to play the Ukulele. This ensures our children are ready for our First Access provision in Year 4.
Pupils in Year 4 take part in 'In2music' where they are offered the opportunity to learn either the Violin, Clarinet or Trumpet for the year. We have three amazing teachers who visit the school every Wednesday morning to teach our children; Mrs Porter, our string teacher, Mr Hanchett, our brass teacher, and Mr Farrendon, our woodwind teacher. During the year the children go to Central Hall to see the Children's Concert before performing their own concert for parents and take part in a city celebration ensemble in the Summer Term.
Children in Year 5 and Year 6 choose whether they would like to continue learning their instrument in small group lessons. We are proud of the high numbers of pupils who choose to continue their learning.
During the year all Year 5 and Year 6 pupils join together to play as part of our Kanes Hill Orchestra.
